Heute Morgen früh haben wir uns aus dem Bett gequält und sind zu dritt (Fäbe [mein Mitbewohner], seine Freundinn und ich) zur Velobörse am Helvetia Platz geschlendert. Wir hatten das Ziel möglichst billige Velos zu ergattern, mit denen man am Morgen zur Arbeit oder kurz in die Migros schippern kann.

Ziemlich schnell haben wir festgestellt, dass die Börse am Helvetiaplatz eher etwas für fahrbare Velos ist. Unter 100 Stutz gabs kein einziges Gerät. Relativ schnell hatte ich mich in so eine kriese Verguckt und werde jetzt mit der Rostlaube zur Arbeit fahren (nur bei schönem Wetter versteht sich).

Ganz anderst mein Mitbewohner. Sehr Zielstrebig hat er sein "billig" Velo gefunden und selbstverständlich wiedermal Masslos übertrieben:

Today I wrote a little nabaztag widget to give you guys the possibility to let him say something to me and my flat-mate (actually he's already annoyed by my testing, don't spam to much :)

The code is really dirty but if you're still interested you can get it here (not tested on anything). If you're going to use this please leave me a note with your url, your nabaztag will probably say some words of me.

While redesigning my blog a little I got annoyed by those "open new site" images. So I decided to install a nice little lightbox based on yui. Here is a example how nice it works:



I changed the behavior of awesomebox a little to don't modify the URL (with the hash/anchor trick) seems it looked a bit like overkill for a simple lightbox. Also I added a link on the "real" picture, so you can still open the image alone and won't loose much usability if you prefer to do so.

Wie immer hält monorom, unsere CSS Göttin, ein paar schöne neue Tipps in peto wie man ein nettes zwei Spaltiges Layout hinkriegt. Hoffen wir das es keine 5 Jahre mehr dauert bis CSS3 vernünftig einsetzbar ist (auch auf dem Microsoft Browser) und wir keine solchen "hacks" mehr benutzen müssen :)

monorom hat mich auch gleich daran erinnert das ich meinen blog endlich mal auf den eigenen Server umziehen sollte. Es kann also Heute zu vermehrten downtimes kommen (hoffentlich verursach ich die nicht auf ganz freeflux ;)

Tonight I got inspired by this article and started to play around a bit with the OS X hibernate modes. The first thing I did was to just try out both modes with all application I had opened at the moment. Then I wanted to know how the performance is when some applications were running. Those tests are very primitive since swap was still active and I didn't got a nice stopwatch, so here are the first results:

RAM Usage ~350MB
Hibernatemode 0:    35s
Hibernatemode 3:    40s

RAM Usage: ~1.4GB
Hibernatemode 0:    35s
Hibernatemode 3:    48s

I found it quite interesting that the safesleep mode didn't took more than a couple of seconds longer to go to sleep so I figured out a nicer test environment. I disabled the swap space and created a 1GB ramdisk. (In fact I tried to create more ramdisks but didn't manage to get more than ~1.3GB of memory active). The first test was just after booting up, the second with a full ramdisk. In both cases where very less programms running so the OS could go to sleep without interruption.

PhysMem:   124M wired,  134M active,  641M inactive,  900M used, 1.12G free
Hibernatemode 0: 35s
Hibernatemode 3: 38s

PhysMem:   132M wired, 1.23G active,  630M inactive, 1.98G used, 25.5M free
Hibernatemode 0: 35s
Hibernatemode 3: 40s

My final conclusion is to stick with the default safesleep hibernatemode 3 since the difference is very little and rarely I don't manage to get to a power-plug in time.
